What percentage of my hard disk should be free so that the speed isn't affected?
Some PC engineer told me that the hard disk shouldn't be more than 75% full. Was he right? Also should all of my individual drives be not more than 75%...or does only the total disk space free matter? Like if completely fill up one hard drive and make sure that the total hard disk space has 25% remaining, will my speed be affected?
Generally, it is best to leave about that much available.
If you don't have a lot of free space on the drive, when you save or access files they often become fragmented because there is not enough free space to fit the files in one piece.
You really only need to follow this rule on your C: drive, because this is the drive where 90% of the data transfers occur.
Drives that you use exclusively for storage can be filled up with no real noticeable decrease in performance, except for the occasional pause when trying to open a large file.
